Deep nature connection & visionary mentoring
Most of us were never taught to listen.
For healers, practitioners, and visionaries ready to build a living, sacred relationship with the natural world — and let that wisdom reshape who they are and how they serve.
I've spent 25 years transmitting the arts of deep nature connection, tracking, bird language, and visionary practice. I carry a direct lineage from Jon Young — himself the first student of wilderness survival legend Tom Brown Jr. — and was fortunate to have been mentored by Jon in the same deep, immersive way that Tom mentored him. I'm currently co-authoring a book with Jon on Coyote Mentoring, to transmit these core principles and practices to the next generation of guides, healers, and leaders.
Coyote Mentoring is an inquiry-based, transformational approach to supporting deep bonding and connection with the Earth — enlivening the senses and sparking meaningful engagement with Nature's mysteries. It is the heart of everything I teach.
This is not a wellness program. It's a depth path.
There's a particular kind of longing that brings people to this work. It feels like homesickness — except the home you're missing isn't a place you've ever lived. It's a relationship with the Earth you were born for but never fully entered.
You've done the inner work. You have a practice — meditation, energy work, therapy, teaching, or some weaving of all of these. You've gone deep enough to know that transformation is real, and that how you show up in the world matters.
And still, something calls.
Maybe it arrives as a quiet ache when you're outside — a sense that the birds, the trees, the land are offering something you haven't yet learned to receive. Maybe your spiritual practice, real as it is, has become somewhat internal and solitary — disconnected from the living world around you. Maybe you've tried other programs and found yourself, as one client put it, "spinning your wheels" — gaining knowledge but not the embodied knowing you're actually after.
Perhaps you already sense that the natural world is a mirror — that going deeper into the land means going deeper into yourself. What you haven't had is someone to guide you all the way in.
Many people arrive here expecting to learn more about nature on an external level. What they discover, again and again, is something they didn't expect: as one client said after three months of mentoring, "it's almost like the opposite — it's really heavy on the internal level."
These are things you may already know. This work helps you actually know them — in your body, in your practice, in how you move through the world and serve the people in your care.
If this is where you are, you're exactly who this work is for.
The work
What I teach isn't assembled from multiple modalities — it emerges from a single, coherent lineage of relationship with the natural world, refined over 25 years of practice and mentoring.
At its heart is Coyote Mentoring — an inquiry-based, transformational approach to supporting deep bonding and connection with the Earth, through enlivening the senses and sparking meaningful engagement with Nature's mysteries. This is not a technique. It's a way of being with the land, with students, and ultimately with oneself — passed person to person, in the old way.
The practices — bird language, wildlife tracking, nature qigong, visionary meditation, intuition training, inner tracking — aren't separate courses you collect. They're facets of one way of moving through the world. Each one deepens the others. Together they form what I think of as a complete path: from the quiet of a sit spot, to reading the language of alarm calls rippling through a forest, to the inner landscape of vision, purpose, and alignment.
What makes this different from most nature connection or spiritual mentoring work is the integration. This path doesn't ask you to separate your inner life from your outer practice, your spiritual depth from your professional purpose, your connection with the land from your ability to lead and serve. It asks all of those to become one thing.
"Your teachings illuminated much that even years of formal meditation training had not. I 'knew' these things. Now I know them. I am not afraid of nature — I am part of it."
— Margaret Drescher, meditator since 1971, student of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche
Jon Young, who trained me and whose work has shaped the modern nature connection movement, describes this mentoring as guidance for those seeking "authentic connection to tracking and nature connection at the deepest level."
This is the level we work at here.
What these paths share is a readiness for depth — and an understanding that the most transformative work happens not through accumulating more information, but through building real relationship. With the land. With your own nature. With the mystery that moves through both.

What becomes possible
For the long-time spiritual practitioner
"Your teachings illuminated much that even years of formal meditation training had not. I 'knew' these things. Now I know them. I am not afraid of nature. I am part of it. I am not separate from it. I am invited in because I am nature."
Margaret Drescher · Meditator and practitioner since 1971, student of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche
For the seeker ready to go all the way in
"I wasn't expecting the internal level at first. It's almost like the opposite of what I expected. Connecting to Nature allowed me to explore my inner landscape just as much, if not more, than my outer reality. The past three months have been the most transformative of all my life. Everything you're teaching isn't just about Nature. You can quite literally use it in everything in life."
Madelaine C. · Mentoring participant
For the professional ready to break through
"I had done many personal development programs, but was spinning my wheels. Josh moved mountains within me and opened up so much possibility. I now feel more rooted in who I am, leaning into my life purpose and able to offer my gifts to the world."
Karianna Rosenberg
From Josh's own mentor
"Josh is an exceptional mentor, offering guidance for how to move into our core neurobiology that needs to be awakened in nature through the senses. This mentoring is for those seeking authentic connection to tracking and nature connection at the deepest level."
Jon Young · Founder, Wilderness Awareness School & Connection 1st · Author, Coyote's Guide to Connecting with Nature
For the tracker and nature mentor
"Many of us are starved for what is our birthright: true mentors that enable us to have our own experience and relationships with the places we call home. Josh's mentorship has been just such a gift. My only regret is that I waited so long. If you are on the fence, hop down off that fence."
Chris Lopez
So has this work.
If something in these pages has spoken to the part of you that already knows — the part that has always felt the pull of the wild, the call toward something deeper than your current practice — this is your moment.
You don't have to know exactly where you're going. That's what mentoring is for.
I work with a small number of people at a time. If you feel ready — or simply want to explore whether this is the right fit — I'd love to hear from you.
